Cadence " Magazine is priceless archive of interviews, oral histories, book reviews, and more than [now 55,000] reviews so far of improvised music worldwide." The Penguin Encyclopedia of Popular Music
- Every issue of Cadence Magazine features substantive Interviews and Oral Histories News, and about 300 editorially independent Reviews. If you are serious about Jazz, Improvised Music, & Blues, you will value, enjoy, and use Cadence.
Published since 1976 and indexed yearly ($5 per yearly index), Cadence is an objective, inexpensive, nitty-gritty, bare-bones, everything-you-need-to-know monthly. We average hundreds of record reviews in every issue (with book and video reviews, too). These reviews are 100% editorially independent: our writers have complete freedom to express their opinions (records from our own sister labels have been known to get bad reviews); and everything sent, following our guidelines, to us for review gets reviewed, as long as it is within the Jazz, Blues, and/or Creative Improvised areas. Cadence started out on a kitchen table over 30 years ago and it has survived and thrived because its readers value, respect, and depend upon it.
Our interviews, which have run as long as 80,000 words, are substantive and professionally focused. For a listing of back issues, including past interviews check out the Cadence Back Issue page.
