How do I get my recording reviewed in Cadence?
Please send two (2) review
copies of each recording that you wish to be reviewed.
Cadence offers the most complete coverage of the entire creative improvising
music scene extant. Cadence is not some ephemera, but is a thorough on-going
documentation of the scene for this and future generations. Since 1976, Cadence
has reviewed some 40,000 different books, records, CDs, videos, and tapes and
offered monthly worldwide coverage to a worldwide readership. Cadence Magazine
is regarded as one of the standard references of the art.
Upon receipt it will be listed in the current issue as an issued release. It will then be assigned to a writer for coverage in a future issue. Tearsheets are always sent to the address of the record label. We make use of press releases, itineraries, bios, photos, etc. We also offer yearly subscriptions. Click here for information on subscribing.

Call 315-287-2852 and ask for Larry Raye.
Is there a cheaper way to ship overseas?
The short answer is no, but read on for a good idea. We offer several ways to ship overseas, ranging from inexpensive but uninsured and slow to reasonably priced (especially for larger orders), fast, insurable, and trackable. Please see our shipping page for options and rates. For an even better rate consider having your discs put in CD sleeves. Three discs in CD sleeves count as 1 unit for shipping, the same as 1 disc in a jewel box. For example, 21 single CDs in jewel boxes would count as only 7 units for shipping if they were put in sleeves. We have spent (and continue to spend) much effort and time trying to keep our shipping rates reasonable as well as practical. They accurately reflect our shipping costs.
I have not received my latest issue of Cadence. Can you ship me a new one today?
The U.S. Postal Service now charges $10.40 to mail a single copy of Cadence internationally. This is just part of the inflationary costs implemented by the U.S. Postal Service over the past few years. As a result, single issues of Cadence going to an international destination will be sent out only as part of a bulk mailing from our offices, or as part of a CD/LP and/or audio order being sent to the individual.
So if you order an issue to be sent outside the USA one week after we have had a bulk mailing. . .be patient.
Thanks for your understanding.
How can I be notified of special sales and new additions?
Please see our listserv page for information on subscribing via email to our various listservs. There is no charge for this service.
What credit cards do you accept?
We take Visa, MasterCard, Discover. Payment and ordering information can be found here.
Why can I not find an item I am sure you have in your search engine?
Please read the section on our search engine page about how to use the search engine. It is a relational database. Try to be less inclusive in your search. Perhaps just enter the start of the last name, or only the label, or only the number of the item. If you are still having trouble, please email cadence@cadencebuilding.com.
How will I know if my recording has been reviewed in Cadence?
Basically, if your release is in our area of coverage and 2 copies were sent, it will be reviewed (and tearsheets sent to the company. See below) usually between 60 to 180 days after we received it. If it's been longer than that, call (315-287-2852) and we will attempt to reference the review.
I am trying to find a review that I heard was in Cadence.
Regarding your inquiry about something printed in Cadence. Note:
1) If your recording has a label name, i.e. "Marble Records," a tearsheet of the review will have been sent to the address of the record label. Check with your label first.
2) If you did not get it and/or want a(nother) copy, give us as much information as possible (for instance: the title, label, #, artist, issue, page number) and your email address and we will try to email you a PDF of the review. The charge for this is $5.00 paid by visa, mc, discover.
3) If you want a copy of the whole issue, send a check or supply us with a visa, mc, discover, card number and your mailing address and we will mail you a copy of that magazine the same day. The total charge for this is $15.00, ppd USA, or $20 ppd, rest of world.
Please understand that we have reviewed well over 40,000 items and it is amazing how time consuming it is to do an archive search. We might also suggest you consider subscribing to Cadence. This helps support the independent reviewing process. Click here for subscription information.
